ECC Technology Transfer

Through education, we not only advocate for the EIFS industry, but we also provide members with technical information that will help them provide the best service possible. That’s how we advance and grow the EIFS industry in Canada and we count on you to contribute your part by staying on top of all the latest advancements and research posted on this site.

In this section, you’ll find a series of tutorials and technical bulletins that will help members makes the best use of EIFS for their construction projects.

Introduction to The Cost of Building Enclosures Series

Exploring the economic and thermal performance implications of enclosure design strategies, this primer on the EIFS Council of Canada’s technical series: ‘The Cost of Building Enclosures’, introduces you to the 3-part series unpacking a number of Life Cycle Cost considerations in a unique and accessible format unlike any previous studies completed before it.

As defined by the UN, climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns, mainly caused by human activities, espcially the burning of fossil fuels.

The Cost of Building Enclosures – Part 1

This series takes the viewer through a comprehensive study completed by RDH Building Science Laboratories on behalf of the ECC. Through comparative Life Cycle Costing and Thermal Performance analyses, it answers several questions surrounding enclosure system design choices in this new era of heightened economic and performance expectations. In Part One, we explore the study’s terminology and reference framework to set the stage for the results of this ground-breaking work presented in Parts 2 and 3.

The Cost of Building Enclosures – Part 2

This series takes the viewer through a comprehensive study completed by RDH Building Science Laboratories on behalf of the ECC. Through comparative Life Cycle Costing and Thermal Performance analyses, it answers several questions surrounding enclosure system design choices in this new era of heightened economic and performance expectations. In Part Two, the areas of construction requirements, energy codes and related energy use as influenced by wall system performance are broken down across the study’s four subject cities and building archetypes.

The Cost of Building Enclosures – Part 3

This series takes the viewer through a comprehensive study completed by RDH Building Science Laboratories on behalf of the ECC. Through comparative Life Cycle Costing and Thermal Performance analyses, it answers several questions surrounding enclosure system design choices in this new era of heightened economic and performance expectations. In this installment, we examine costs related to upfront construction as well as operation and maintenance activities on our residential and commercial buildings over a 50-year study period. These amounts are added to the previously explored energy costs for a total life cycle cost comparison of EIFS to other common enclosure system options.
